Seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi says MotoGP is “boring” and believes the sport’s product must be improved to keep people interested.

The enigmatic 33-year-old Italian is well out of this year’s championship race, with Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo dominating the season.

And Rossi insisted in an interview with BBC Sport that MotoGP had become boring, with only the two Spanish riders and Australian Casey Stoner winning Grand Prixs this year.

“My personal feeling is that they have to change a lot for the future, because now is the worst moment for MotoGP since I was in it,” Rossi said.

“It is the most boring moment, because the races are quite bad. Look at Moto3, very exciting, Moto2 - fantastic - and then arrive at MotoGP, it is very difficult to stay awake. They have to change the product.

“The level is fantastic, the bikes and riders are very fast, but too perfect.”

The next race is the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island on October 28.
