Gina “Conviction” Carano was an American MMA artist. She is a member of Xtreme Couture and an expert in Muay Thai and boxing. She started competing in 2006.
Born Gina Joy Carano in Texas, Dallas on April 16, 1982, she’s been a sports enthusiast since high school. Before her MMA career, Carano is an accomplished kick boxer with a record of 12-1-1. She got a degree in psychology at the University of Nevada.
Because of her striking records in kickboxing, she was offered an MMA fight. It started in June 2006 when she won over Leiticia Pestovavia in the first round in 38 seconds via KO. She had her first fight under Strikeforce on December 2006 and defeated Elaina Maxwell in a unanimous decision.
Conviction continues her victory when she fought for EliteXC in 2007. She won her fight over Julie Kedzie, Tonya Evinger, Kaitlin Young and Kelly Kobold.
She signed a contract with Strikeforce in 2009. It paved the way to challenge Christiane “Cyborg” Santos for the first Women’s Featherweight Championship title. She got her first failure when the fight was halted after 5 minutes announcing Santos as a winner.
