Karl James Noons or KJ Noons is a professional mixed martial artist from America. He is also a former professional kickboxer and boxer. He is currently a free agent but has competed in the lightweight division of promotions such as the UFC, Strikeforce, EliteXC, and DREAM. He is the former EliteXC lightweight champion. Noons has been competing professionally since the year 2000.
Noons comes from a family of fighters. His father was a professional kickboxer and so he introduced KJ Noons to martial arts at a very young age. At age five, KJ was already training in Kenpō Karate. At age 8, he started training in Muay Thai and boxing. He became an amateur fighter and became the first student in Hawaii to earn a junior black belt at a vry young age of 11. In high school, he continued to fight but also played football. At the age of 17, Noons won the ISKA Super Middleweight International Championship in amateur Sanshou. Rather than go to college, Noons decided to pursue combat sports professionally following his title win and after graduating from high school.
Prior to UFC, Noons was already a contender in many promotions. He won the PRIDE Fighting Championship’s audition on “Best Strikers”. While Noons never fought under the promotion, he did fight in PRIDE’s subleased promotion, the SuperBrawl. Noons then signed with Elite Xtreme Combat in a contract that allowed him to compete not only in MMA but also in boxing. Noons fight with Nick Diaz for the Elite XC Lightweight Champion was one of the player’s career highlights. It wasn’t until 2013 that Noons was signed into the UFC. He lost his debut fight at UFC 160 but redeemed himself in his second match at the UFC 166. During his career with the UFC he won the Performance of the Night bonus award against Sam Stout. Following successive losses, Noons was released from the UFC in April 2016 and is now a free agent.
