Ronaldo Souza or Ronaldo dos Santos is a professional mixed martial artist known as, “Jacare”. He was born in charming Vila Vilha in Brazil on December 7, 1979. The talented fighter is also a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a submission grappler aside from being a mixed martial artist. At present, he is signed under the Ultimate Fighting Championship and competes in the middleweight division.
Souza was a former middleweight champion under Strikeforce. Before coming to the UFC, he was also a part of other promotions including Jungle Fight and Dream. As of May 2016, the Brazilian fighter is ranked second in his division by the UFC.
The talented fighter grew up in Caricica, Brazil. He competed in football during his high school years up until he was 15. He lived in a rough neighborhood at that time, but moved to Manaus where he started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and judo. Due his impressive skills in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he is known as one of the greatest practitioners in the said martial art of his time. In fact, he holds several championship titles and gold medals in a number of local, national and international Jiu-Jitsu competitions. In 2003, he made his mixed martial arts debut.
Souza earned several accomplishments in his mixed martial arts career. These include a one-time Submission of the Night and a two-time Performance of the Night under the UFC. He was also a runner-up in the 2008 Dream Middleweight Grand Prix and a 2014 All-Violence Third Team.
The 36-year old stands 6 feet and 1 inch and comes with a 72-inch reach. He boasts of black belts in judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. From 2003, he amassed a mixed martial arts record of 28 fights with 23 wins, 4 losses and 1 no contest.
