Tripping is another one of the common minor penalties, and it is a stick penalty at that. This means that without the help of the stick, tripping could not occur. If you position your stick in a way that trips another player whether purposely or otherwise, you will be assessed a tripping penalty. This is a minor penalty that can result in two minutes in the penalty box leaving your team short of a player or even a penalty shot in some instances.
While tripping is not a huge penalty, it is an important one because hockey is a violent and rough sport. Having players down on the box can result in more injury than a person would like to deal with, and on a multiple scale at times.
