In hockey, the term 'the point' is referring to a spot on the hockey rink where the defenseman waits. There are two of these positions inside the blue lines, and these are right and left points. The point is also a term that can be used for the defenseman that is positioned on one of the points on the rink.

In another context, the point is a measurement of the goals and assists that make up the total standing of a team. There is one point given for a tie and two points given for a win or loss in overtime.
