Slashing

Slashing in the game of hockey is short and simple. Using your stick to swat at, reach, or swipe at another player in the game is called slashing. This is short of hitting the other player with the stick, which is a whole other offense entirely. Slashing can result in a penalty shot if it obstructs another play or time in the penalty box, or even sometimes minutes on the clock. Slashing is a minor penalty in the sport of hockey.

Slashing sometimes happens on accident, and so it is important for players to keep their sticks close to their body and constantly in play to avoid mishaps and minor penalties like slashing and hooking.
