In every sport there are two main types of shots. There are those shots that make it into the goal and those shots that do not make it into the goal. A shot on goal in the game of hockey is an attempt at making a shot that would have made it in as a shot if not for the efforts of the goalie. A shot on goal can result in only two things: a goal that makes it or a save by the goalie.

Many people make the mistake of thinking that a shot on goal is always a shot that makes it or always a shot that is saved by the goalie; real hockey fanatics know that it can be either or.
