Power play

Power play is play that is played while a team one or more has members inside the penalty box. Power play is especially important during a game of hockey because the team is at a disadvantage during power play, because penalty box time usually does not allow the team to make replacements; they must play the game short handed.

If there is a time when both teams have the same amount of members serving penalty box time, there is no such thing as a power play. The power play ends once the attacking team actually makes a score, in which the penalty box time ends for that team. This is a signal that the power play is over. If the team on the power play makes the score, however, the penalty time is not up.
