Interference is a term that is used interchangeably between all different types of sports. It is a term that is used in hockey to describe a player who uses their equipment or their body to impede the progress of another player from the bench or a player with possession of the puck. Not all stoppage is interference, of course, but interference is a minor penalty that can result in a penalty shot or time in the penalty box like any other minor penalty. Most players have committed interference and can do so without knowledge or intention, just out of the heat of the game so it is a common and non offensive penalty, yet one that should be watched.
