Hooking is nothing more than improper use of the stick, a minor penalty in the game of hockey. In hockey, hooking is using the stick to slow down another player by hitting them with the stick or hooking any part of the body with the hockey stick. In essence, hooking is using the hockey stick to slow down the member of the opposite team, and in newer regulations there does not even have to be any physical contact for it to be considered hooking. Hooking is not a serious penalty, and it is very vague at times so it is important just to keep your stick in legal use and use it as willfully and purposely as possible.
