High-sticking in the game of hockey is another minor penalty that a player can get that can result in a penalty of some sort or another. High sticking is using the hockey stick to touch another player about the shoulder. This is in place to prevent and reduce injuries to the head through use of the stick. High-sticking becomes an even more serious penalty if the offended player draws blood. In this case, a double minor penalty is assessed at four minutes in the penalty box. If the puck is hit by a high sticker, a face off will occur right where the offense occurred, which hurts the offensive team.
Any and all goals that are scored as a result of high sticking will be ignored and not counted toward winning or losing totals.
