As in any sport, the coach of a hockey team is the real leader of the team. Although he does not participate in any of the hockey games personally, the coach gives a hockey team just about everything that they need to win the game, if they are qualified to do so. The coach leads the center, the captain, the goaltender, the forward, the winger, and just about everybody else who plays and makes any effort at winning a hockey game.
Coaches are in charge of just one team -their own team. Often times they come from another team and that is how they build up experience and a coaching reputation, but hockey coaches only coach one team at a time.
The greatest coaches make the greatest teams. Coaches are important for hockey teams because they can make objective decisions and suggest improvements and changes from an objective point of view, not as a member of the team.
