Scott Rachal Verplank is a professional golfer from America. He was born on July 9, 1964 in Dallas, Texas, and is married to Kim Verplank, and has 4 children with her. While Verplank was born in Dallas, Texas, he currently resides in Edmond, United States, and has been playing golf steadily since he was still in high school.
While he was studying at Oklahoma State University, Verplank won the Western Open in 1985. Through that victory, he became the first ever amateur to be victorious at a PGA Tour since 1956 when Doug Sanders was victorious at the Canadian Open. A year before that, Verplank was also a winner at the U.S. Amateur Championship, and was able to earn an NCAA individual title in 1986.
After winning the NCAA title, Verplank turned pro, and since that time, he has established a solid career in golf. One of the most memorable plays that Verplank had was during the Ryder Cup in 2006, where he faced off against Padraig Harrington, and during the 14th hole, Verplank shot a hole-in-one. Although this was a very impressive shot, Verplank’s efforts did not have the desired impact since the opposition had already won the Cup. Nevertheless, he is already known in history as the first ever American to make a hole-in-one at the Ryder Cup.
Throughout his career, Verplank has enjoyed 5 PGA Tour titles. However, he has yet to win a single Major Championship in his career. He also has enjoyed a number of awards including PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year in 1998, and the Ben Hogan Award in 2002.
