Mickelson’s exit ended opportunity for No.1 rank

Phil Mickelson almost had the No.

Phil Mickelson almost had the No. 1 rank in the world in his hands, except that it ended much like his very first opportunity to do so two months ago. This time, he missed the cut for the Scottish Open.Phil Mickelson>

During the event, Mickelson was able to make three tee shots over the 18th hole midway through the second round. He was on his way to a quintuple-bogey 9, but he never really got those wayward shots back in round 3. He missed the cut by just one shot.

Those who reached the top 65 as well as the ties were the ones who were able to make the cut for the European Tour. Looking back, Mickelson could have hit played the second drive instead of hitting a third tee shot over the 18th hole. In fact, many believe it would have made a word of difference during his weekend play at Loch Lomond.

Although he did miss the cut, Mickelson does have a weekend to practice hard for the British Open.

When asked for his comment, Mickelson said, “It wasn’t too bad of a day except for two swings… Those four penalty strokes hurt the round quite a bit.”
