Seve Ballesteros announced to the public his desire to make a comeback at the 2010 British Open which will be held at the St. Andrews golf course. The 53 year old Spanish golfer was challenged after seeing his long-time American rival, Tom Watson who is in the lead in this year’s British Open at Turnberry in Ayrshire. He won this major title over Watson at St. Andrews in the 1984 British Open and is anticipating in doing the same in next year’s tournament. Ballesteros has a record of three British Open titles while Watson has five of them.Seve Ballesteros>

In 2008, Ballesteros underwent operations for his malignant brain tumor which came after his retirement in 2007. After his full recovery in April 2009, he made his first public appearance in June and proclaimed that his life is a “miracle” after winning his fight over the tumor.

His comeback to the golf scene is his way of returning back the gratitude he has for his British fans who supported him for more than three decades.

In an interview with the Spanish sports news Marca, he said “I would love to play at St. Andrews next year for the British public, it’s an objective I would like to turn into reality.”
