Sri Lanka’s champion off spinner Muttiah Muralidharan has been ruled out of the ICC World T20 after suffering a groin strain during the match against New Zealand.

A Sri Lankan team physio Tommy Simsek speaking to srilankacricket.lk said that clinical tests revealed a Grade 1 strain of his right adductor muscle.

Murali will be advised to rest for 2-3 weeks.

The national selectors are expected to decide on his replacement on Monday.

With their campaign derailed by a loss to New Zealand, Sri Lanka face a battle of survival against a confident Zimbabwe in their second Group B match of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup today.
