Cricket South Africa have "jumped the gun" by announcing Makhaya Ntini's one-month deal with Kent, according to the LV= County Championship side.
CSA today announced Ntini had signed a short-term deal for Kent to replace injured Australia seamer Stuart Clark.
Ntini has been contracted to the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League but, like many of his compatriots, has not had any game time.
Kent confirmed negotiations with Ntini are taking place, but a deal is yet to be concluded.
A Kent spokesman told Press Association Sport: "We are involved in advanced discussions, but they've jumped the gun."
Meanwhile, Loots Bosman has been given permission to play for Derbyshire from June to August after the ICC World Twenty20 and the one-day segment of South Africa's tour of the West Indies.
Hashim Amla and Ashwell Prince are already plying their trade in the LV= County Championship for Nottinghamshire and Lancashire, respectively, prior to the Proteas' tour of the West Indies, while Herschelle Gibbs will play for Yorkshire in the second half of the season.
