Injured Sehwag ruled out of World T20

India's star opener Virender Sehwag has been ruled out of the ICC World T20 due to a shoulder injury. The selectors have picked Murali Vijay as his replacement.

A BCCI press release said Sehwag has been advised rest for three-four weeks.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has accordingly picked Murali Vijay.

Gautam Gambhir will be the vice-captain of the team.

Sehwag played all 14 IPL league matches for Delhi, scoring 356 runs. His last appearance for the team was on April 18.

It is an odd quirk of fate that a shoulder injury also prevented the opener, and the world's leading Test batsman, taking any part in last summer's ICC World Twenty20 in England - when India were knocked out in the group stages.

The International Cricket Council's event technical committee today confirmed Sehwag will be replaced by Murali Vijay, following a communication from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Pakistan have also had to update their squad, with pace bowler Mohammad Sami and slow left-armer Abdur Rehman replacing Umar Gul and Yasir Arafat.
