Deryck Lance Murray is a former player and captain of the West Indies national cricket team. He was born in the Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago. He was a right handed batsman and a right armed legbreak bowler. He has also stood as a wicketkeeper for his team. Murray was also a star player for the Warwickshire team in English County Cricket.
While growing up, Murray studied at the Cambridge University as well as the Nottingham University. At the start of his career, Murray was selected in the West Indies team as a wicketkeeper and successfully claimed 24 victims. He played a total of 62 tests for West Indies and scored 1,993 runs off them. His batting average stands at 22.90 with a top score of 91 runs. He also played 26 test matches for West Indies with a batting average of 24.50 and a top score of 61 runs.
He played his last match in 1980 and post-retirement, Murray took a diplomatic stance on Trinidad’s behalf at the United Nations. He is more known for his keeping than his batting.
