As of now, he has been selected by the Mumbai Indians to play at the IPL 5 season 2012.
Sri Lankan selectors were impressed by the talent of Thissara Perera and hence, gave him an opportunity to play for the ODI Team on December 24, 2009. He was then taken into the side in replacement of Angelo Mathews.
Perera is capable of clearing any boundary in the world with his bat. Due to his all round skills he was picked up by Chennai Super Kings for the previous IPL seasons, as they were looking for All-Rounders who could give lusty blows with the bat in the lower order. Kochi Tuskers Kerala picked him up for the side where he was one of the overseas players.
Of the 34 ODIs he has played he has made 363 runs at an average of 16.50 and maintaining a high strike rate of 115.97. He has also picked up 48 wickets at an average of 71.71. He also has a First Class Century and a five-wicket haul to his name.
