**Mamatha Maben ** was born in 1979 in Bangalore. She is an Indian cricketer who has played forty women ’s one day internationals and four women ’s test matches. Moreover, she also played in 1993 Women ’s Cricket World Cup in England. Her style of batting is aggressive right hand middle order and doubles as a useful medium pacer too.

At an early age of 17 years, Maben was selected for the Karnataka team. From then onwards, there was no looking back as she gave one after another some great performances at the national level for almost six years. This made her place in the World Cup squad, the Women ’s World Cup in 1993 in England.

This Bangalore all rounder has played for the Indian team in 1993, during the World Cup match in England. Since that time, she was finding it rather difficult to find a place in the Indian team, until the 2001-02 England tour. In 2000, she suffered a serious setback to her career when she dislocated her shoulder on the opening day itself of the CricInfo Rani Jhansi Trophy. Due to this, she had to quit the game of premier domestic tournament but stayed in touch as a journalist and worked for print and net concerns.

In 2001, she made a strong comeback and scored constantly throughout the year. She was also rewarded when the Indian team selected her again on their team. After her selection, she scored a half century in the third game itself which justified her selection. Moreover, her performance is more creditable, as one fact is for sure that she returned to the women ’s cricket team after a long duration gap of eight years.

Mamatha is thus known as one of the most popular women cricket players in India and in the world. She is mostly well known for her innate cricket skills. Moreover, it is because of her sole fielding policies that Maben has engraved a place for itself. Statistics indicate that she had a very good cricket career and at present, she is known as the captain of the India team. Her captaincy stint started with a great style with a series of matches winnings over the New Zealand team. This amazing player is quite well known middle order batswoman along with a useful medium pacer too.
