Born in Queensland, Herbert Ironmonger was a former Australian cricketer who played first-class cricket for Victoria. He was a left-handed batsmen and a left-armed medium pacer. Born as a youngest child to a farmer, he lost his left-hand forefinger in an accident.

Ironmonger played first-class cricket for the first time at the age of 27. He had not made his test cricket debut until he was 46. He played as a part of the test squad for four years till he turned 50 and first-class cricket till he was 53. Making his debut for test matches at an older age, Ironmonger is the fourth-oldest player to have done so. He was also the second-oldest cricketer to have played at tests.

He has played a total of 96 first class matches with a batting average of 5.95 and a bowling average of 21.50. Ironmonger has taken 5 wickets in an innings on 36 occasions and 11 wickets in an innings on 11 occasions. His best bowling figures stand at 8 wickets for 31 runs. He has played a total of 14 test matches with batting averages at 2.62 and bowling averages of 17.97. His best bowling figures for test matches are 7 wickets for 23 runs. He has dismissed 74 batsmen in test matches and 464 batsmen in first-class matches.
