John Emburey is currently the coach of Ahmedabad Rockets in the ICL. When he finished his playing career, he coached Northants from 1996 to 1998. He signed as a coach of Berkshire in 2001 and later became Middlesex’s 3rd coach. Emburey coached this side for 6 years and in 2007 became the director of cricket. He was further selected for the post of the coach of the Indian national team, but he turned down the offer. Later, he accepted to be the coach of Ahmedabad Rockets.
John Emburey was a right arm offbreak bowler and right handed batsman. He played for several teams like England, Middlesex, Western Province, Northamptonshire and Berkshire. He debuted in Test cricket at Lord’s against New Zealand from 24th to 28th August 1978. In the 1st innings, he bowled 26.1 overs, out of which 12 were maiden, conceded 39 runs and claimed 2 wickets. In the No. 9 batting slot, he faced 34 deliveries and scored 2 runs. In the 2nd innings, he bowled 2 maiden overs out of a total of 3 and gave away 1 run. He did not get an opportunity to bat. England won this match by 7 wickets.
