Dale Steyn

Dale Willem Steyn is a right handed batsman and right arm fast bowler who plays for South Africa cricket team. He also plays for teams like Warwickshire, Titans, Northerns, Essex, Bangalore Royal Challengers and Africa XI. Presently, he has been retained by the Deccan Chargers team to play at the IPL 5 season 2012.

Steyn played his first Test match from 17th to 21st December 2004 at Port Elizabeth against England. In the 1st innings, he scored 8 runs in 10 balls batting at the No. 11 spot. He bowled 25.5 overs, out of which 2 were maidens, gave away 117 runs and took 2 wickets. In the 2nd innings, he was unbeaten on 2 in 2 deliveries. He conceded 29 runs and took 1 wicket in the 6 overs he bowled, out of which 1 was maiden. England won this match by 7 wickets. Steyn’s One day International debut took place on 17th August 2005 at Centurion and the contestants were Asia XI and Africa XI. In this match, he scored 3 runs in 10 balls. He bowled 9.1 overs, out of which 2 were maidens, took 1 wicket and conceded 40 runs. Africa XI won this match by 2 runs.

Steyn participated in 54 Test matches and in these he bowled 11135 deliveries off which 6307 runs were scored and 272 batsmen were dismissed. His bowling strike rate was 40.9, bowling average was 23.18 and economy rate was 3.39.

In One day Internationals, his economy rate was 5.08 and he took 91 wickets in the 3071 balls he bowled in which 2605 runs were scored. In the 63 One day Internationals, his bowling strike rate was 33.7 and bowling average was 28.62.
