Harold Pope
Harold Popeimage:Harold Pope |Harold Pope was an English cricket player born in Tibshelf in Derbyshire. This right handed batsman and leg break bowler played for the Derbyshire cricket team in 1939 and 1946.
Born in 1919, Harold made his first class debut for the Derbyshire team prior the outbreak of the Second World War against West Indians team. However, he was unable to make his County Championship that year as the competition was to be held after the war ended.
This lower order batsman had frequent bowling attack which could not be stopped. His team finished in a lowly position however in the 1946 County Championship, where Harold had to finish with an average of seven that season.
His other two siblings, George and Alfred were also an active part of the Derbyshire cricket team. George played cricket for almost fifteen years for the Derbyshire cricket team whereas Alfred played first class cricket for nine years.
With right to his first class career in batting and fielding from 1939 to 1946, Harold played in 10 matches, scoring 16 innings and 81 runs. His highest score was 24* at an average of 6.23. Other than batting, he had amazing bowling skills too. Overall, he took 1156 balls, 26 maidens and 599 runs. He took 15 wickets at an average of 39.93.
