George Arthur Davidsonimage:George Davidson |George Davidson was an English cricket player who used to play for two teams, Derbyshire and Marylebone Cricket Club. Between 1886 and 1898, he was a part of the Derbyshire team and between 1888 and 1898, he was a part of the Marylebone Cricket club. This all rounder scored more than 5500 runs and took around 621 wickets in his first class cricket career.

Born in Brimington in Derbyshire, George started playing cricket since 1886 for the Derbyshire team. It was his first class debut played against Marylebone Cricket Club. In 1887, he topped in the batting and bowling figures, scoring the first 2 half centuries of his career. In 1888, the Derbyshire team lost first class status, following which, George played for MCC in the following six years.

He scored two half centuries, once in 1890 and once in 1892 and by 1893, he was the top ticket taker of the team. In 1894, he played in almost 19 first class matches for Derbyshire team. He also played for the Players at Lord’s.

Overall, this right handed batsman played 260 innings in 158 first class matches. He made 5546 runs with an average of 23.80 and a top score of 274. This right arm medium fast pacer took 621 first class wickets at an average of 18.26. At the age of 32, George died in Tividale due to pneumonia.
