At all its grandeur, the Sea Wind was lit up with an array of stars ranging from Bollywood to the cricketers fraternity. Hosted by Mukesh and Nita Ambani, the event was a major spotlight on 7th December, 2009 at the Ambani residence at Cuffe Parade. The affair was hosted to commemorate Sachin Tendulkar on his successful completion of 20 years of cricket. >
The party also saw many biggies Bollywood including Aamir Khan with his wife Kiran, Shah Rukh Khan and Asha Bhonsle. The show saw dance performances from Dia Mirza, Sameera and Shamita Shetty. Asha Bhonsle was also on stage to perform a musical number. Host Mukesh Ambani gave an emotional speech on the occasion and expressed that owing to his line of business, he could never predict for the future but for Sachin, he predicted a long and fertile innings for the years to come.
Sachin was present at the ceremony with his entire family and was overwhelmed on receiving the honor. Actors Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan recited a poem to pay tribute to Sachin. Co-inciding with Sachin completing 20 years of cricket, India also became World Number 1 in Test match rankings, giving the Ambanis - an avid fan, a reason to celebrate. The party was organized keeping in mind the theme, “One man’s triumph is everyone’s celebration”. The event was also attended by Indian skipper MS Dhoni > as well as few Sri Lanka cricketers. It was very polite of the Sri Lankan team to attend despite having faced a loss earlier on the same day. Tendulkar also captains an IPL (Indian Premier League) team, Mumbai Indians, which is owned by Mukesh Ambani.
Some of the actors that attended the gala were Rani Mukherjee, Raveena Tandon, Preity Zinta, Anil Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. Besides Kiran, Aamir Khan arrived with Raju Hirani, the director and Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the director of his movie “3 idiots” although co-stars, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi were missing. Aamir presented the famous lines, “Khudi ko kar buland itna ki har takhdir se pehle khuda bande se khud pooche, bata teri raza kya hai.” Co-Owner of the IPL team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, Shah Rukh Khan recited a poem written by his daughter, Suhana.
Nita Ambani gave a short speech providing a 16 year recap to the crowd including Sachin’s coach, Ramakant Achrekar and Sunil Gavaskar. The entertainment continued as Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh took on the dance floor. As the entertainment never ceased to stop, the Ambanis welcomed Sachin and raised a toast to his name. The entire Team India was called upon the stage and the hosts popped up champagne to congratulate them.
The night was a well-organized affair and the starry night would be remembered by Sachin and all the attendees for years to come.
