In June 2009, the inaugural ICC Women’s World Twenty20 has been scheduled. It seems that the World Cup winning team of England Women has won the faith of the England selectors as they have retained the same squad for the Twenty20 event. A provisional squad of 18 players has been declared which includes all 15 players who took part in the World Cup championship in Australia and the 3 remaining players are Georgia Elwiss, Danielle Hazell and Rosalie Birch. >
Edwards’ remarks
The skipper of the England Women cricket team, Charlotte Edwards told BBC Sport that after winning the World Cup, the team had enjoyed all the accolades and the time has been exciting for them. However, presently, the team is totally concentrated on winning the ICC World Twenty20. This tournament provides a huge opportunity to promote women’s cricket. The semi finals and final are on the same day and in front of the same crowd as the men’s matches. The initial matches of the Women’s World Twenty20 would be played in Taunton and on 21st June 2009, Lord’s has been decided as the venue for the final. This tournament is the first occasion when the Women’s and Men’s tournament would be held at the same time.
