New Zealand defeated India by 5 wickets in the 2nd Twenty20 International at Wellington on 27th February 2009. Due to this win, New Zealand still has a 100 percent Twenty20 record against India. >
Yuvraj not enough
India was provided an aggressive beginning by Virender Sehwag, but this start was wasted as Yusuf Pathan, Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina were dismissed due to poor strokes. During the 7th over, India lost 3 wickets and after 10 overs were 64 for 3. Further, Yuvraj had an inside edge for a boundary and smashed 3 sixers. He completed his half century by a huge hit over wide long-on. When he was on 50, Jacob Oram took an easy catch over extra cover. Mahendra Dhoni remained unbeaten on 28 with the aid of 2 fours and Irfan Pathan along with Ravindra Jadeja played some huge hits to elevate India to 149.
A last ball finish
Brendon McCullum and Jesse Ryder provided New Zealand a perfect start of 52 in 4.3 overs. Then, the Indian spinners, Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja were successful in diminishing the Indian run rate from 10 to 7. When the quota of the spinners was over, Zaheer Khan was recalled. Although, Irfan Pathan had bowled 2 expensive overs and Ishant Sharma had 2 balance overs, Dhoni directed Pathan to bowl, when 3 overs were remaining. Ross Taylor was clean bowled by a swinging yorker and Jacob Oram returned to the pavilion for a duck. The 19th over was bowled by Yuvraj and he gave away 11 runs off this over. From the last over, the hosts needed 12 to win. Only 3 singles came from the first 3 deliveries. Then, McCullum fired two boundaries to level the score. When he scored a single off the final delivery, McCullum was unbeaten on 69. He was honored as the Man of the Match.
