Rosendo Alvarez
Rosendo Álvarez was born in May 6, 1970 in Managua, Nicaragua. He was blessed with a spirit of being a flyweight boxer and became famous for giving Mexican legend Ricardo Lopez two tough fights. Rosendo is the only one capable of holding the undefeated champion to a draw. Luckily, he won the World boxing Association over Thai fighter Chana Porpaoin. He was able to defend his title by knockout over the former and future champions namely Songkram Porpaoin and Kermin Guardia. In save his own crown, he decisioned veteran Eric Chavez and Takashi Shiohama.
Later in 1997, Rosendo fought to a draw with WBC champ, dropping Ricardo Lopez for the first and only time in his career. However, he lost a split decision to Lopez in the second match though he didn’t succeed to make the weight before the fight. The two met at an over the 105 pound straw weight limit with the WBA title set on the line exclusively for Lopez. Rosendo then climbed up to the 108 pound division. However, he failed by seventh round disqualification to Antonio Bebis Mendoza for the vacant WBA light flyweight title. He avenged this loss by twelve round split decision. Being a champion, he defeated the former champion Pichit Siriwat and fought a twelve round draw against the IBF champ Jose Victor Burgos. He then moves up to the flyweight division where after a few tune-up fights, was rain checked in six months by Jorge Arce.
