A double dribble is a violation in the sport of basketball in which the player triples the ball, holds the ball, and then attempts to double it again without attempting to make a shot or passing it. The dribble is known to actually end when the ball is touch with both hands at the same time or the player allows the ball to come to rest in their hand. If the player touches the ball more than once while dribbling it before it touches the floor that is considered to be a double trouble as well. The dribble before and after the player has held the ball or lost control of the ball, or allow people to leave their homes or become a dead ball.
Only the referee can call a double dribble and will do so by blowing the whistle to signal a violation placing both their hands out with their palms facing the ground.
