Antonio Burks is a former American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association and various European leagues. He is best known for his college career at the University of Memphis and his brief stint with his hometown Memphis Grizzlies.

Antonio Cornell Burks was born on February 25, 1980, in Memphis, Tennessee, United States of America. He stands 185 cm tall and his weight was listed at 91 kg. Burks played as a right-handed shooter and a point guard.

In July 2009, Burks was shot during a robbery attempt in Memphis. He underwent several surgeries and recovered in the hospital. The assailant was later convicted and sentenced to 97 years in prison.

High School and College Career

Burks attended Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis, Tennessee. He then played one year at Hiwassee Junior College in Madisonville, Tennessee before joining the University of Memphis as an invited walk-on.

At Memphis, Burks helped the Tigers win the NIT championship in 2002. In his senior year, he was named the Conference USA Player of the Year.

Professional Career

Burks was selected by the Orlando Magic with the 36th overall pick in the 2nd round of the 2004 NBA Draft. He was immediately traded to his hometown Memphis Grizzlies. In his rookie season, Burks appeared in 24 games.

After being waived by the Grizzlies in 2006, Burks continued his career in Europe. He played for KK Crvena Zvezda in Serbia, Lukoil Academic in Bulgaria, and Czarni Słupsk in Poland.

Post-Playing Career

After recovering from being shot in 2009, Burks became an assistant coach for LeMoyne-Owen College in 2010. In 2013, he started his own lawn care business, Antonio Burks Star Maintenance and Lawn Services.
