Glen Rice

Glen Rice is a former professional basketball player from the United States of America. He played in the National Basketball Association for 15 seasons from 1989 to 2004, most notably with the Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, and Los Angeles Lakers. His last season in the NBA was played with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Rice was a three-time NBA All-Star and won an NBA Championship with the Lakers in 2000.

Player Profile and Personal Life

Glen Anthony Rice Sr. was born on May 28, 1967, in Jacksonville, Arkansas. When he was a few months old, his family moved to Benton, Arkansas before relocating to Flint, Michigan when Rice was 12.

He stands 203 cm tall and his playing weight was 97 kg. Rice played as a right-handed shooter and he was a small forward.

Rice’s son Glen Rice Jr. also became an NBA player. After retiring from the NBA in 2004, Rice worked as a teacher, personal trainer, and scout for the Miami Heat. He has also returned to Arkansas to teach basketball fundamentals to youth.

High School and College Career

Rice attended Flint Northwestern High School in Flint, Michigan, graduating in 1985. He then enrolled at the University of Michigan, playing for the Michigan Wolverines from 1985 to 1989.

As a senior in 1989, he was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Professional Career

Rice was selected by the Miami Heat with the 4th overall pick in the 1989 NBA draft. He played his first six NBA seasons with Miami, emerging as one of the league's top scorers.

In 1995, Rice was traded to the Charlotte Hornets. He played three seasons in Charlotte, making the NBA All-Star team each year from 1996 to 1998. In 1996-97, Rice led the NBA in three-point shooting at 47.0%.

Rice was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1998. He helped the Lakers win the 2000 NBA Championship, averaging 12.4 points per game in the playoffs.

After single seasons with the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets, Rice finished his career with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2003-04.

He scored 18,336 points over his 15-year NBA career, ranking in the top 100 on the league's all-time scoring list at the time of his retirement.
