Thursday, June 26, 2008 – There were six games played in the WNBA tonight.
In the early games, the Indiana Fever were cooled off by the New York Liberty after 3 overtimes losing 102-96. Janel McCarville came through for the Liberty with 31 points, a career high. Essence Carson had 18 points, Loree More added 12 and Cathrine Kraayeveld 11.
For the Fever, two other players notched career highs: Ebony Hoffman with 26 points and Tammy Sutton-Brown with 23. Sutton-Brown also grabbed 15 rebounds in the losing effort.
The Detroit Shock avenged their loss a couple of days ago to the Connecticut Sun, 70-61.
Five Shock players finished in double figures, including Deanna Nolan with 13 points.
Asjha Jones led the Sun with 14 points.
The Minnesota Lynx fans breathed a sigh of relief tonight, as the Lynx defeated the Sacramento Monarchs 80-76 for their second win in a row, putting them at an 8-6 record. After their 5-0 start, the Lynx had lost 6 of 7, and they needed this win desperately.
Seimone Augustus overcame an apparent bout with food poisoning to pour in 23 points. Rookie Candice Wiggins contributed 17 points.
The Monarchs, on the other hand, have lost four of five since an 82-78 win at Minnesota on June 12. In the losign cause, Nicole Powell had 20 points.
