Jason Repko
Jason Edward Repko is a professional baseball player from the USA and plays as a centerfielder. Repko went to the Hanford High School where he was a letterman in baseball. In his senior year, he had a .581 batting average and had 18 home runs to his name with 14 stolen bases. He also pitched occasionally for his team and even clocked a 94mph fast-ball. However, the highlight of Repko’s career was his All-American status, something that made him a first round pick at the 1999 MLB Amateur Draft.
Missing his graduation ceremony for the draft, Repko also let a San Diego State University scholarship go by in exchange for his draft responsibilities.
Repko started off as a shortstop for Rookie League side, the Great Fall Dodgers. His .304 batting average and 8 homers saw him get named to the Pioneer League All-Star team. During Spring Training in 2000, Repko tore a hamstring, leaving him on the sidelines for almost the entire season. In 2001, he returned to play in the A-League with the Wilmington Waves however a broken vertebra only allowed him to play 88 games.
In 2002, Repko put in a complete healthy season for the Vero Beach Dodgers and he was placed into the centerfield position from shortstop. Repko hit at .272 with 29 steals to get named to the Florida State League All-Star team. He moved up to the AA-League to play for the Jacksonville Suns and in 2003 & 2004, he spent most of the time ferrying between the Suns and the Las Vegas 51s in the AAA-League.
In April 2005, the big moment finally came to Repko who made his debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the San Francisco Giants. Repko hit his first homer just 4 days later, off Oscar Villarreal and on his first ever at-bat in the Dodgers Stadium, he sent one flying out of the ball park as well.
Playing 129 games, Repko had a .221 batting average with 8 homers and 30 RBI.
The following year, Repko began strongly but an ankle injury kept him out for over 2 months. Upon returning to the lineup, Repko spent most of his time warming the bench with 5 players ahead of him in the rotation. In October, Repko went under the knife and was kept out of action till Spring Training in 2007. Cleared for play, Repko returned to the field, only to collide with Rafael Furcal, during a Spring Training game, and tore his hamstring. While Furcal suffered an ankle injury, keeping him out for the year, Repko was out as well.
It was only in June 2008, that Repko came back to the lineup and played his first MLB game in almost 2 years. His return to the top level wasn’t so good and he spent most of the time bouncing between the Las Vegas 51s and the Dodgers.
In 2009, Repko began his season in the AAA-League with the Albuquerque Isotopes before coming on for the last ten games of the season in the MLB. An otherwise promising career marred by injury after injury, Repko has truly been unlucky in his tryst with baseball at the professional level.
