A right-handed baseball pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks, James Connor Robertson was drafted out in the 31st round of the 2004 draft in Birmingham Southern College, by the Oakland Athletics. Splitting that year between Vancouver Canadians and Arizona League Athletics, Robertson appeared in 25 games with the Athletics, and only three games with Vancouver. All these appearances were in relief and he posted a composite record of 2-2 and saved 13 games.

The next year, Robertson appeared for three teams, Kane County Cougars, where he posted a 2-2 record and 2.93 ERA, then Stockton Ports, where he posted 5-2 with a 2.76 ERA and then was finally promoted to Sacramento, with whom he pitched in three games, tossing five innings. For that year, his composite numbers were 7-4 records, a 2.76 ERA, walking 40, striking out 120 and two saves in 75 innings.

In the 2006 season, Robertson remained with the Midland RockHounds, with whom he appeared in 55 games, posting a 2.82 ERA, claiming seven of nine decisions and also fanned 97 batters in just 83 innings. In December, 2007 Robertson was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks, with Dan Haren.
