Henning Solberg

Born in 1973, Henning Solberg is almost two years older than his more famous brother, Petter. Over the last few seasons, however, Henning has become as much a part of the World Rally Championship's scene as his former World Champion younger brother. Henning has never tasted success the way Petter has but that has never been a distraction for observers who have seen this Norwegian drive.

Henning Solberg was brought up mainly on a diet of motocross and jumped into contemporary rally driving in the mid-90s. He started his rally career on the international scene, in 1998 with some select runs in a Ford Escort WRC and a Toyota Corolla WRC. Once there, he started setting the pace and left others in his wake, on the way to five consecutive Norwegian titles between 1999 and 2003.

In 2004, he joined Bozian Racing's privateer outfit that used Peugeot's expertise. This move ensured a step-up to the semi-works Ford team run by M-Sport, for the 2005 season. His performances caught the eye of the OMV-Peugeot Norway World Rally Team in 2006 and he was called up to participate in quite a few of the WRC rounds. He drove the Peugeot 307 solidly and achieved his maiden podium place in Rally Turkey.

In 2007, Henning's irresistible flamboyance at the end of each stage has endeared his charismatic personality to many fans. It has become somewhat of a trademark for him to display some crowd-pleasing stunts and antics during super-special stages. This quality of his, has made him one of the most loved drivers on the World Rally circuit.
His antics however shouldn't be a distraction to anybody as his driving talent has rapidly marked him as a solid contender on drivers' charts. Although he finished the 2007 championships in seventh place, behind his brother, with Ford, in 2008, Henning will aim to enhance that reputation and become a contender for the title.
