Federico Villagra was born in Argentina on 21st May 1969. From the tender age of 10, Villagra had shown a passion for speed and racing. He began his career by participating in motocross events at an early age. Between 1984 and 1996, he had accumulated quite a lot of silverware from several motocross and enduro titles.
It was in 1997 that Federico gave the World Rally Championships, some serious thought. Alongside his brother, Javier, Federico took part in the first national rally event of his career in 1997. The same year, he also took part in Rally Argentina and in his first attempt at the F2 Class; Federico came home in third place.
The following season, he again participated in the same rally, this time to finish fourth. He followed this with a victory at the Argentine '24 hours Rally'. Things were looking up for Federico as he topped his class in the N4 category, 2001. For the next 3 years, he participated in the N4 Class and won it three times out of three.
2004 saw Villagra step up his performance a notch, by winning the Chilean Championship. He also became the overall champion of Argentina in the same year, thus propelling his career in leaps and bounds.
These victories caught Munchi's eyes and the team decided to give him a shot to replace Juan Pablo Raies in the WRC team. Federico's natural talent has already come to the fore with his new team and just a few events old, the potential of this Argentine is there for all to see.
