Andreas Lilja

Andreas Lilja is a Swedish defenseman on the Detroit Red Wings.

Lilja was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2000 after playing five seasons with Malmo IF of the Swedish Elitserien league. Lilja played for the Kings until 2003, when he was traded to Florida. He was moved to Detroit following the lockout in 2005. In 2005-06, he set career highs in games played (82), points (15), plus/minus (+18) and penalty minutes (98).

Lilja and two other Swedish hockey players were at the center of a investigation regarding the rape of a 22 year old woman during the lockout season in 2004-05. Lilja, Henrik Tallinder and Kristian Huselius were suspended from the Swedish National Team and their Swedish club teams in March '05 when a special prosecutor re-opened the case, but in June they were cleared when no evidence could be found to prove that they forced the woman to have sex.
