Emerson Ferreira da Rosa, commonly known as Emerson, is a Brazilian international footballer who currently features for the Italian and European powerhouse AC Milan. He is a defensive midfielder with an urge to contribute to the attack.

Emerson commenced his professional career at Brazilian side Grêmio in 1993 although he had graduated from the youth academy of Botafogo. Emerson made the big leap tp Europe in 1997 when he switched over to German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen for whom he featured with pomp for the next three season.

Italian side AS Roma signed Emerson in the summer of 2000 and the Brazilian international midfielder went on to win the scudetto with the Roman club in the 2000-2001 season. He played with perfection as a water-carrier for Roma until the end of the 2003-2004 season when he was signed by Italian giants Juventus for a transfer fee of nearly 15 million euros.

Emerson played for the Old Lady of Turin for the next two seasons under his old Roma coach Fabio Capello and helped Juve win two successive Italian Serie A titles(which were of course nullified because of match-fixing). He was signed by Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid in the summer of 2006 after Juventus were relegated to the Serie B as punishment for match-fixing.

At the end of the 2006-2007 season Real Madrid felt that they didn't need Emerson any more and so sold him to AC Milan. Emerson though has been hampered for his new club in the 2007-2008 season because of injury.

Emerson is a full-fledged Brazilian international midfielder and has played 73 times for his nation. He was part of the Brazilian squad in the 1998 World Cup and came as a late replacement for Romario. But four years later, just before the 2002 World Cup in which he was slated to the captain of the Brazilian national side, he dislocated his shoulder during training and had to miss the competition.
