Dominika Cibulkova began playing tennis at the age of 7 when she was introduced to the sport by parents Katarina Cibulkova and Milan Cibulka. Born on May 6, 1989 in Bratislava, Slovakia, she turned pro in 2005 after playing on the ITF circuit in the Czech Republic.

The Slovak tennis player, who prefers clay and hard as her favorite surfaces, spent much of 2005 and 2006 playing in the ITF circuit, winning her first ITF Circuit singles titles in 2005 in Amarante, Portugal and the second in 2006, in her hometown of Bratislava.

She made her first top 100 finish in 2007, with a Grand Slam draw debut at the 2007 French Open where she reached the third round. She also made the third round in Amelia Island against Anabel Garrigues but eventually lost to fellow Slovak Daniela Hantuchova. She also reached the quarterfinals in the ECM Prague Open, a match that she lost to Victoria Azarenka.

Cibulkova reached the semifinals at the Guangzhou International Women’s Open in China, losing to eventual champ Virginie Razzano. In 2008 she made her first top two career wins over world no. 12 Schnyder and no.6 Venus Williams. She made her top 40 debut soon afterwards on February 25, rising from no. 45 to no. 38.

She withdrew from Bangalore in March due to a lumbar spine injury but finally reached her first tour final at Amelia Island, eventually losing to top seed Sharapova. Despite the loss Cibulkova went on to rise further in the ranks, reaching no. 29 on April 14.

Cibulkova has also played in the Fed Cup for the Slovak Republic from 2005 to 2008. She currently holds 2 ITF titles in singles. Although she holds no WTA titles, Cibulkova currently ranks at no. 29 in singles and no. 452 in doubles.
