Kamela Teresa Gissendanner was born on July 27, 1985 to Kamela Towns and Ed Rideout. She has one brother, Kane and two sisters, Kameron and Kamara.

High School
Kamela holds the Clairton High Sschool scoring record at 2,703 points. She was ranked 10th nationally as a wing by the All Star Girls Report, and led her team, the Bears, to back-to-back WPIAL Class A titles in 2001 and 2002.

College
Kamela first attended NC State, from 2003 to 2004, and played for the Wolfpack. She then transferred to Penn State, and so had to redshirt during the 2004-05 season. She majored in rehabilitation services while at Penn State.

During summer 2005 she played on the Big Ten Foreign Tour team that traveled to Belgium and Holland.

Kamela began her career for the Penn State Lady Lions in the 2005-06 campaign, starting every game.

During her junior season, (2006-2007) season, she finished third on the team in scoring.

WNBA
Kamela was not drafted during the 2008 WNBA draft, but signed a training camp contract with the Los Angeles Sparks and was selected to the team. She played in only a couple of games before being waived on June 27, 2008.
