Ryan Whitney is an American defenseman for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Whitney played high school hockey at Thayer Academy where he often shared ice time with current defensive partner, Brooks Orpik. Whitney would play his college hockey at Boston University, where he was given a full scholarship to play. In 2002, the Penguins drafted Whitney with the 5th overall pick of the draft. He played his first NHL season in 2005-06. Whitney has developed into a solid defenseman while showing a knack for offense as well. He set a career high for points in the 06-07 season with 59.
