Jarkko Nieminen has made and is constantly making Finland proud with his accomplishments in Tennis. Nieminen is said to be the first Finn to achieve the highest ATP ranking, the first to have won an ATP title and the first to reach the quarterfinals in all Grand Slam events entered. Making waves at only the age of 26, Jarkko Nieminen is definitely a Finn to be reckoned with in the world of Tennis.
Though Jarkko only turned pro in the year 2000, this Finn has already begun playing tennis as soon as he reached the age of four. Before turning Pro, Jarkko Nieminen was already known as a superb Tennis player in the juniors division, even reaching the juniors ranking of number 9 in the whole world. Now, as a professional tennis player he was able to land the number 13th spot in the Singles circuit, his highest ranking so far on July 10, 2006. In the doubles circuit, the highest rank achieved by this young Finn is the number 42nd spot only recently on January 28, 2008.
The year he turned pro was also the year he had his first Davis Cup match against Andrea Gaudenzi but unfortunately lost. 2000 was a better year for Nieminen as he was able to win his first Davis Cup against Sweden’s Mikael Tillström. In the succeeding years of his Tennis career, he became the first Finn to reach the ATP finals, the first Finn to reach the Top 50 in world rankings and the first Finn to reach quarterfinals in a number of Grand Slam events.
