Germany has produced numerous drivers who have left their mark on the F1 tracks. Timo Glock will be hoping to join that list before his career comes to a standstill. He has been much talked about in his initial years and despite his rapid strides, it just remains to be seen whether this man can produce the results that everybody expects off of him.

In 1998, Timo Glock started his race career in Karting, at the age of 15. This was rather late as most drivers start when they are about 7 or 8 years old. But this didn't stop the teenager from showing his prowess as he quickly raced away to win several Karting Championships. His progress was so quick that after just two years of Karting, Timo was at the BMW-ADAC Formula Junior Cup. As with his past endeavours in Karting, Timo won it too. He moved up from the Junior Category in 2001 and almost like clockwork, Glock drove his way to another championship at the BMW-ADAC Formula series. Of course, the fact that he was named "Rookie of the Year" cannot be missed.

Formula3000 came calling in 2002 and the German took to it like a duck to water. He finished 3rd overall in the German Formula3000 championships and in 2003, he took 5th place in the International Formula3000 Euro Series. He took 3 race wins and reached on the podium on 6 occasions.

He was called into the Jordan Racing Team as a test driver in 2004 and after signing the German, Eddie Jordan had this to say: "Timo is one of the most promising young driving talents in Germany at the moment and I'm delighted that we're able to offer him a regular F1 testing role."
His Formula One debut came as a surprise and in a Jordan team that was shutting down. At the 2004 Canadian Grand Prix, Timo had a good run of fortune as he was asked to replace the regular driver Giorgio Pantano who had a dispute over his contract. This was not the only stroke of luck that he was to get for that race weekend. Glock finished at 11th place and eventual disqualifications of the Williams and Toyota cars gave him the seventh spot and a points finish on his debut. The German took part in three more races for the British Team before the end of the season.

Timo failed to maintain his place in the next year and thus decided to shift base to the Champ Car World Series for the year 2005. He won another 'Rookie of the Year' award in addition to his overall eighth place finish. He then moved to the newly renovated GP2 series with the BCN Competicion team but, midway through the season, shifted to the iSport team. His switch was fruitful as he started picking up important finishes that got him a 4th place in the overall standings with 2 victories.

In 2007, he rattled the field with 5 incredible victories and clinched the GP2 series that got him back into the fray as far as Formula1 was concerned. He was named as the test driver for the BMW Sauber team and despite being bound by the contract with the Sauber team, he signed for Toyota for the 2008 season. There was a lot of hue and cry by Sauber but in the end, the Contract Recognition Board granted the German permission to race with Toyota in 2008.

Timo is returning for a 3 year stint with the Cologne based team after 4 years away from the Formula 1 scenario. Alongside Jarno Trulli, the German will be looking to enhance his craft skill and fighting spirit. He will resume his battles with past adversaries from the GP2 series like Heikki Kovalainen, Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Nelson Piquet Jr.
