Nkolika Nonyelum Anosike was born in Brooklyn, New York. Her mother is Ngozi Anosike, who emigrated from Nigeria. She has seven siblings: Nneoma, Rotanna, Ikenna, Ifesinachi, Anulika, Oderah, and Ejimofor.
High School
Nicky grew up in the West Brighton housing projects on Staten Island, N.Y. During her senior year at St. Peter's for Girls, the family moved to New Jersey, although Anosike remained enrolled at St. Peter's.
Nicky was selected as a Parade Magazine Second Team All-America (2003 and 2004) and McDonald's All-America (2004).
University
Nicky attended the University of Tennessee, where she majored in sociology/criminal justice, with additional majors in political science and legal studies. She played basketball for the Lady Volunteers under head coach Pat Summitt.
In her four-year career as a Lady Vol, Nicky joined Chamique Holdsclaw, Tamika Catchings and Candace Parker as the only four Lady Vols to amass 600+ points, 500+ rebounds, 100+ blocks, 100+ steals and 125+ assists.
WNBA
Nicky was chosen #16 by the Minnesota Lynx, in the WNBA 2008 draft, the second choice in the second round, after her Lady Vols teammate Shannon Bobbitt.
