Malik Hairston fan club
Malik Samory Hairston is a professional basketball player from the United States of America and plays as a shooting guard or small forward. Hairston went to the Renaissance High School where he was teammates with Joe Crawford. A member of the 2004 McDonald’s All American team, Hairston helped his team go 27-0 in the regular season and win the Class B state championships as well. The team went to number 3 in the country, according to USA Today while Hairston, himself, was on the top-10 lists of virtually every pundit in the country.
Hairston went to the University of Oregon, following high school, and continued playing for the Ducks. In his freshman season, Hairston was named to the All-Pac 10 Freshman team while his sophomore season performance got him an honourable mention in the All-Pac 10 conference team.
In his junior season, Hairston became one of only 11 players to record over 1,000 career points by their junior year. Despite being struck by injury, in 2006-07, Hairston was extremely important to the Ducks’ run to the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament. In his senior year, Hairston averaged 16.3 points per game with 4.8 rebounds per game, enough to make him a second round pick.
At the 2008 NBA Draft, Hairston was picked at 48th overall, in the second round, by the Phoenix Suns. He was immediately sent out to the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of a trade for Milt Palacio while the Cavaliers decided to send him to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Goran Dragic and cash considerations.
After being waived off at the end of their late-October training camp, Hairston was re-signed by the Spurs, in December, and sent to the Austin Toros, the Spurs’ Developmental League affiliates. Four days later, the San Antonio Spurs decided to bring Hairston into their NBA team roster and since then, Hairston has been a permanent fixture on the Spurs’ bench.
