Diego Forlan Corazzo is an Uruguayan international footballer who plays for the Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid. Forlan is recognized for his goalscoring knack and work ethic on the pitch.
Diego Forlan's father Pablo Forlan was a highly aclaimed international footballer and played for the Uruguay national football team during the 1974 FIFA World Cup held in West Germany. Diego's grandfather Juan Carlos Corazzo played for Argentine club Independiente and therefore Diego has both Argentine and Uruguayan passports.
Diego Forlan commenced his professional career with Independiente in 1998 and moved onto Manchester United in 2002. But he was a flop at Old Trafford where he managed just 17 goals in 96 appearances in his two seasons there.
Villarreal signed Diego Forlan in the summer of 2004 and won the Pichichi award in the 2004-2005 season in La Liga by topscoring in the league with 25 goals. He played for Villarreal for a further two seasons and in the summer of 2007 was signed by Atletico Madrid for a staggering sum of 21 million euros.
Diego Forlan has emerged as one of the most prolific strikers in La Liga in the 2007-2008 season and had helped Atleti qualify for the UEFA Champions League 2008-2009.
