Mariano Andrés Pernía Molina is an Argentine born Spanish international footballer currently featuring for the Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid. He is essentially a left wing back.
Mariano Pernía was born in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires and came through the ranks at San Lorenzo. He is the son of the former Argentine international footballer Vicente Pernía and played for Argentine giants Independiente from 1999-2003.
In January 2003, Mariano Pernia moved to Spain and Recreativo de Huelva but in his very first season in La Liga, he had to face the humiliation of a relegation to the Segunda Division. He played the 2003-2004 season in the Spanish second season with Recre.
Pernia was signed by Getafe in te summer of 2004. Getafe were now promoted to the Spanish top flight and Mariano Pernia was a huge hit in his first season for the Madrid club. With his attacking instincts and a very lethal left foot, Pernia was able to impress the Spanish football lovers and in the summer of 2006 was signed by Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid.
Mariano Pernia was granted a Spanish citizenship in May 2006 and was included in the Spanish national squad that travelled to Germany for the 2006 World Cup but only after regular Spanish international left-back Asier del Horno sustained an injury.
